Bet types explained: from 1X2 to Asian handicaps

Picking the right team is only half of a bet. The other half is picking the right contract: the same opinion — "the favourite will win" — can be expressed as a match-result bet, a handicap, a draw-no-bet or part of an accumulator, and each one wins, loses or refunds in different situations. This guide goes through the bet types you will meet in the Homebet88win sportsbook, with worked examples using a stake of 10 units — read it as dollars or the riel equivalent.

Single bets and the main bet types

A single is one selection with one stake: it wins or loses on its own. Every other format is built from singles. The main result markets are:

"Normal time" matters: in football, a 1X2 bet is normally settled on 90 minutes plus stoppage time, without extra time or penalties. Markets that include them say so in their name — "to qualify", "to lift the trophy".

Handicap and over/under markets

An Asian handicap removes the draw by giving one side a virtual head start. Lines come in three kinds, and the difference between them is where most confusion — and most disputes — arise.

Line on your teamYour team wins by 1DrawYour team loses
−0.5 (half line)WinLoseLose
0 (whole line)WinStake refundedLose
−0.25 (quarter line)WinHalf refunded, half lostLose
−0.75 (quarter line)Half won, half refundedLoseLose
−1 (whole line)Stake refundedLoseLose

A worked example: you stake 10 on a team at −0.75 with odds of 1.90. The stake is split, 5 on −0.5 and 5 on −1. If the team wins by exactly one goal, the −0.5 half wins (5 × 1.90 = 9.50) and the −1 half is refunded (5), so you receive 14.50. Win by two or more and you receive 19. A draw or a defeat loses all 10.

Over/under (totals) works the same way on goals or points. Over 2.5 goals needs three or more. Over 2.0 refunds the stake on exactly two. Over 2.25 splits the stake between 2.0 and 2.5: on exactly two goals, half is refunded and half lost; on three or more, both halves win.

Accumulator bets: how they work

An accumulator (also called a parlay or multi) combines several selections into one bet. The odds are multiplied — three selections at 1.80, 2.00 and 1.70 give combined odds of 6.12, so 10 returns 61.20 — but every leg must win. The bookmaker's margin is multiplied too, which is why long accumulators are profitable for sportsbooks. If one leg is void (a postponed match, a refunded handicap line), most sportsbooks remove it and settle the rest at reduced odds; a half-refunded quarter-line leg is usually counted at adjusted odds. The exact treatment is in the operator's settlement rules.

System bets and choosing your format

A system bet places every combination of a given size from your selections as separate bets, so one loser does not sink everything. The trade-off is cost:

NameSelectionsBets includedNumber of bets
Trixie33 doubles + 1 treble4
Patent33 singles + 3 doubles + 1 treble7
Yankee46 doubles + 4 trebles + 1 four-fold11
2 from 44all 6 doubles6

A 10-unit Yankee therefore costs 110. There is no universally best format. Singles keep risk visible and margins low; accumulators trade probability for payout; systems sit in between at a higher total stake. Choose the format to fit your budget, not the size of the possible return.

In-play bets and cash out

Most of these bet types are also offered in play, repriced as the match unfolds. An Asian handicap taken in play usually counts only goals scored after the bet is placed — check the market description, because this "from the current score" rule surprises many bettors. Cash out, where offered, lets you settle early at the sportsbook's valuation, which includes its margin. The betting guide covers in-play mechanics and acceptance delays in more detail.

Bonuses and bet types

Sports promotions often restrict which bet types qualify: a minimum odds level per selection, accumulators only, or no system bets. Bets that are refunded or cashed out may not count towards wagering. Before using a bonus on handicaps or accumulators, read the promotion terms; our wagering guide explains how sports contributions are usually calculated.

FAQ

What does a quarter handicap like −0.25 mean?
Your stake is split in two: half goes on the 0 line and half on the −0.5 line. If your team wins, both halves win. If the match is drawn, the 0 half is refunded and the −0.5 half loses, so you get half your stake back. If your team loses, both halves lose.
What happens to an accumulator if one match is postponed?
Under most sportsbooks' rules the void selection is removed and the bet continues with the remaining legs at reduced odds — a four-fold becomes a treble. The operator's settlement rules decide how long a postponed match can be delayed before it is declared void.
Is a system bet safer than an accumulator?
It is more forgiving: one losing selection does not sink every line. But it costs more, because each combination is a separate bet. A Yankee on four selections is eleven bets, so the total stake is eleven times the unit stake.
Does Draw no bet differ from a 0 handicap?
No — they are the same contract under different names. Your team must win for the bet to win; a draw refunds the stake.
